Is using it worth it? What’s the best way to use it? What can I expect to get from it?
Just a sample of lots of questions about LinkedIn which come to mind when thinking about using it.
I’m not a LinkedIn coach nor do I sell courses on how best to use it – I’ve been using it regularly since September 2008 though so have a pretty good idea about the platform.
For me, LinkedIn is a means of connecting with (and learning from) people and it’s also a platform for marketing and advertising myself and my business interests
What I use it for and what I want from it has actually recently changed because, after several years of being hyper-focused on the analytics of the content I regularly create, I’ve stopped giving AF TBH!
I will still create content as ideas come to me but I’ll no longer force myself to post daily.
Once posted, I will no longer obsess over the analytics but I will continue to engage with comments as that’s a key way to make new connections/learn more about existing connections.
I’ll continue to engage with posts in my feed that are interesting to me but I’ll avoid negative posts and definitely won’t look to get into arguments!
I’m going to be stricter as to who I accept connection requests from because otherwise my feed can quickly fill up with the wrong type of content which is really frustrating and a big time suck.
If you want to use LinkedIn or you’re already using it but want to see better results, the primary question that you need to be crystal clear on 1st is….is your intended audience using it?
If the people you want to connect with aren’t even on the platform (or maybe are on it but not as active users) then is there any point in putting effort into it?
LinkedIn means different things to different people and is used in many different ways. It’s understandable why some people advocate creating a proper strategy for how best to use it and it’s no surprise that so many people offer paid services for getting the best out of it.
I don’t need them but that doesn’t mean I believe no-one else does!
